Overview
A stone creature meets a glowing butterfly in this ten-second 3D loop. For my first solo project from concept to final render, I combined scanned stones and forest assets with animation, lighting and sound to bring the encounter back to its starting point.
Mystery Forest is a ten-second 3D loop I made alone over a few weeks. In a forest at night, a small stone creature watches a glowing butterfly approach. The encounter lights its eyes and the surrounding scene before everything gradually returns to the starting point.
I wanted a dense environment without modelling every tree and plant from scratch. I assembled Quixel Megascans assets, then reshaped or sculpted some of them. Lighting and compositing brought the different sources together in an image that sits between realistic materials and stylised forms.
The creature came from stones I scanned near home, assembled and resculpted into a character. Because its body was made of rigid pieces, it did not need skinning. Each element was animated separately and connected through constraints. The butterfly began as a cut-out texture, also from Megascans.
Movement and colour carry the story. The butterfly leads the eye towards the creature, whose eyes and cracks turn cyan as the forest brightens. Its departure gradually restores the original lighting and closes the loop. I also created the sound using online libraries.
This was my first solo 3D project taken from concept to final render. I handled the concept art, character, animation, lighting, compositing and sound.
