Overview
At La Planète Rouge, I led the technical approach to five AI-assisted environments for Quick’s Tony Parker campaign. We combined image generation, compositing and Unreal Engine to deliver 2.5D sets for an LED shoot on a tight schedule.
Quick’s Tony Parker campaign was shot on La Planète Rouge’s virtual production stage at Provence Studios. The request came two weeks before the shoot: five different environments, with four days available to build them.
The shot list agreed with the director guided our approach. Most shots were static, with a few short tracking moves and very little change in parallax. Fully 3D environments would have added preparation time without serving the shots, so we chose AI-assisted still images.
We generated the environments in Midjourney, then assembled them from several images in Photoshop. Generation gave us material to work with; manual compositing gave us control over each area and helped us refine the images with the client.
Each environment was split into layers and rebuilt in 2.5D to support the small camera moves. Normal passes generated in ComfyUI allowed the surfaces to respond to lighting. Unreal Engine sent the environments to the LED wall, where the layered depth and the camera’s depth of field brought them together.
After the shoot, a last-minute request involved bringing a face closer to a reference. We generated several images to establish the intended result, used FaceFusion for the replacement and integrated it in Nuke. I led the technical choices, the image-generation direction and the facial integration.
All five environments were delivered on time, with a day of creation followed by a revision pass the next day. The campaign ran on television, in cinemas, in outdoor advertising and on social media.
