UFO
Overview
I worked with a team of four on UFO, an animated New Year greeting for the City of Arles. My contribution covered story development, rigging, animation, lighting, FX and compositing, followed by editing and sound. We suggested an unseen spacecraft through light, music and the cornfield's movement.
UFO is a short animated New Year greeting made by a team of four for the City of Arles. A sleeping Texan mistakes strange lights and music in his cornfield for a rave and heads out to stop it.
With only a few weeks to make the film, we kept the spacecraft off screen. Its presence comes through a blue beam, sound, the character’s reactions and the movement of the corn. This supported the joke while keeping the production manageable.
I contributed to the script, storyboard and 3D animatic, and suggested using Character Creator to establish the character’s proportions and topology early. The base could then be resculpted without rebuilding the retopology. I handled rigging and skinning corrections, then worked on animation, lighting, FX and compositing.
I also edited the film and handled sound editing, effects and mixing. Music from Universal Production Music sets up the apparent rave, while Valentin Braz composed the closing notes. The cornfield simulation and final crop-circle reveal bring the visual and sound-driven gag together.
