Contraste is a one-minute film I made alone over three months at MoPA, for an assignment on colour. Inspired by testimonies in the documentary Welcome to Chechnya, it follows a man who is attacked in a red corridor, wakes beside his partner, and later encounters the same corridor again.

The nightmare and the final scene use exactly the same red. The colour becomes a point of recognition for the character. In the chase, I combined an extreme low angle, a rotating camera, a spiral staircase and a wide lens to create a sense of vertigo.

Working alone meant finding simpler ways to produce what the film needed. I started with Character Creator bases, then reshaped them in Blender without adding polygons. An automatic rig provided the starting point, with manual corrections to the skinning. Hair was painted onto transparent cards attached to the head rather than simulated, which also influenced the choice of short hairstyles.

The two attackers share the same clothing with different textures. For the soundtrack, I layered and edited musical excerpts, recorded sounds and breathing myself, and worked with a Serbian-speaking friend for the Russian dialogue.
